Crispers Turkey Classic Review

Thanks-Giving
It seems like we get taught a lesson in thankfulness every year at the Turkey Classic. The past few years, the long-range forecast for the event always seems bleak, only to change at the last moment and provide fun surf. The idea to "pray for surf" is not just a slogan, but a foundation which we have leaned upon. We thank the Lord that blessed us during the weekend with good surf! Here are some highlights from this year's Turkey Classic:

Title Sponsor - Crispers came on board to sponsor the event as the title sponsor. They provided a great meal for all the competitors during the Saturday night banquet.
Saturday's Surf - After a brief shot of onshore wind the previous day, the waves held all day at waist to chest high, with the occasional larger set.
Josh Autrey - Josh won all three events he entered (which were all the most hotly contested), and every preliminary heat, going 11/11 overall.
10th Street - Although the parking was limited, the sandbar at 10th Street stayed true all weekend long. The lack of a deep trough allowed most waves to break all the way to the beach during the midday high tide.
4 Person Heats - All heats had only 4 competitors, making it easy to catch a lot of waves during the heats and keep the surfers happy.
Team Event - The hotly contested Team event was a treat to watch as 2-person teams surfed strategically to get an edge over the competition.
Photos and Video Highlights - During the Saturday banquet, the days best waves, beach events, and lifestyle shots were put together for a photo and video slideshow.

Thanks: God for sending us waves for the weekend, all the volunteers who served, and the competitors who showed up despite the 30 degree morning air temperatures and poor surf forecast. See you next year!

waves were awful saturday....freak sets were waist high at the most...fun shapes were favored whole event, no way did josh autrey win that expression session...i guess it helps when your brother and friends judge you. as for sunday...freak sets were knee high and pretty much not rideable...what a waste, thanks for stealing our money and time

To anonymous,
The Christian surfers did a great job with this contest. They put a lot of work and planning into this event and I take great exception in your comments. You can control everything in a contest except the waves.
Actually, the waves got pretty fun on Saturday. I saw some nice cover ups and a couple of tube rides.
I did not see anyone out on a fun shape unless you are calling a 5'6" or 5'7" quad a fun shape??
First off, Josh doesn't have a brother and his friends did not judge him. There was a professional panel of paid judges. Anyone showing favoritism of a competitor is dismissed without pay. Obviously you don't have a clue how they scored the expression session. It was the average of the competitors top 2 waves. If it would have been scored on one best wave it would have gone to Andy but Josh had a higher score on the 2 wave average. We had 5 judges for the finals and 2 spotters with 9 competitors out in the line up for the expression session. The high score and the low score gets thrown out. This eliminates any chance of scoring one surfer over another.
Why don't you grow a set and sign your name next time, you coward. If you do grow a set I am in the book, so feel free to give me a call.

Burg, No explaination needed,I think I might detect a little,"I didn't do so good and it's everyone's fault". No one can contol the waves but God,Be thankful you were even able to be there. I'm sure there's a many a kid who would trade shoes with you in a heartbeat. In fact why don't you go on over to the homeless shelter or pedo.ward and just ask some of those kids for your self.Happy Thanksgiving!
